The 50 days of Albert Adria's residency at the Hotel Café Royal will come to an end in two weeks.  Tickets sold out fast, but you can still book yourself in to experience the incredible cocktails created by the acclaimed chef.

La Fée is honoured to feature in Albert Adrià’s highly anticipated residency at London’s famous Hotel Café Royal.  Albert and his brother Ferran are best known for their 23 years at elBulli, the pioneering Spanish restaurant which held 3 Michelin stars from 1997 until it closed in 2011.  Ferran considers his brother to be one of the finest chefs in the world, and Albert was named ‘the best pastry chef in the world’ in this year’s San Pellegrino World’s 50 Best Restaurants.  He has opened five outstanding restaurants across Spain since 2011.

In Memory of Dick Bradsell PDF Print E-mail

It is with sadness and regret to hear of the passing of Dick Bradsell, an icon of modern cocktail culture and the London scene.  I first met Dick in the nineties, when I imported craft beer and Becherovka from the Czech Republic:  I called him to ask a favour – to sample a range of eau-de-vie, including Slivovitz (plum brandy), which I was looking to import.  We met in Chelsea, sitting in my delivery van, parked on a single yellow line, and he proceeded to give a masterclass in tasting spirits - which led to importation following his positive feedback.

Behind the bar at El Camion, Soho, in 2013

In 1998, when we brought Absinth back to the UK with the launch of Hill’s at The Groucho Club, Dick was on-hand to take control of the bar and show off some delicious creations – and again in 2000 for the launch of La Fée Parisienne (real French Absinthe) with Marie-Claude Delahaye.  It goes without saying that he could take any decent spirit and formulate an amazing and balanced cocktail (having said that, he did create the rather powerful ‘Hammer of the Gods’ at the end of the La Fée launch party - proceed with caution!)
He was my go-to expert when it came to sampling new spirits that we were working on, and it was always a pleasure to see his craft and taste his off-the-cuff cocktails at El Camion.
Inventor of – amongst others - the Espresso Martini, Dick was a true legend of the industry, and his memory will live on through his many creations.

Dickensian Absinthe? PDF Print E-mail

Who spotted Mr Venus [from Our Mutual Friend – played by Omid Djalili] sitting with a glass of absinthe in the finale of the BBC’s Dickensian series?

I'll have what he's having! [Credit: BBC]

We were pleased to see what looks like a well prepared measure of traditional absinthe, in a classic absinthe glass, on Mr Venus' table as is joined by Inspector Bucket [from Bleak House – played by Stephen Rea] in The Three Cripples [the public house from Oliver Twist]. This is a historically sound appearance of La Fée Verte - the mid 19th century saw absinthe grow in popularity around the world.  In the UK, absinthe was enjoyed at famous establishments like The Savoy and Café Royal Hotel (where Oscar Wilde enjoyed a glass or two) and would have no-doubt made its way into a few public houses.

Set in the universe of Charles Dicken’s many famous literary works, the BBC series Dickensian has impressed on many levels, not least in the standard of writing and strength of cast.

La Fée is honoured to feature in Albert Adrià’s highly anticipated residency at London’s famous Hotel Café Royal.
Starting on the 12th of February, running until Saturday the 9th of April, 50 days of Albert Adria brings the innovative and contemporary cuisine for which Spain is famous to the iconic hotel.

La Fée is used to form ice cubes in Albert Adrià's Fable Cocktail

The 50 days… journey begins in the rather-fitting Oscar Wilde Bar with a selection of bespoke cocktails and signature snacks, featuring La Fée Absinthe in new and innovative ways, and ends in the Domino Restaurant with a ten course tasting menu.  Tickets sold out instantly, with 10,000 more people requesting reservations than were available!  Fortunately anyone can still enjoy Albert’s exclusively created cocktails at the Oscar Wilde Bar throughout the duration of the residency.  Will 2016 see another gastronomic event that can rival this?  We'll have to wait and see, but this is undoubtedly a fitting tribute to the hotel's 150th year.

'Though we are sorry to see the passing of this fine institution - you will be missed - I’m pleased to be hosting this informal Absinthe category Master Class on Friday 27th November, at 7pm.  Attendees will be able to taste four traditional Absinthes from its birth place of Couvet in Switzerland to the home of French Absinthe in Pontarlier, as well as the Rhône-Alps.  We shall discuss the historical rise, fall and revival, including my personal involvement in ensuring the category's renaissance, and finish with a cocktail that shows-off the versatility of the spirit and its future in the global cocktail scene.'
George Rowley, La Fée Brand Owner & one of the architects of Absinthe's Renaissance.
